I Have No Idea

We spent a fine day in the city—a tasty Burmese brunch followed by a matinee of the new Rhiannon Giddens opera, Omar. Based on the only known slave narrative written in Arabic, it is the story of a wealthy Muslim Senegalese scholar who was captured and taken to South Carolina. He lived the rest of his life in slavery and never stopped his study of the Koran, while also trying to understand Christianity and the people who enslaved him. The staging and costumes were magnificent, featuring flowing Arabic script to emphasize Omar’s literacy and legacy. 

It takes us just under two hours to get to the city. We can still do it as a day trip, but it’s getting harder, especially now that the clocks have changed again. Welcome to another upside down week of trying to make sense of time!
