Shawnee Lookout Park
Sunday
Our day started with a wonderful morning at church, with the sunlight pouring through the stained glass windows, beautiful music and a good message from David, our pastor. The service started with a prelude - a worship medley for organ and piano, which was wonderful, then there was the choir anthem and later in the service the Praise band sang a beautiful piece during Communion. The service was quite long this week, so there wasn’t much time for mingling over refreshments before we went to Bible study - studying a passage from Ezekiel this week. It was another beautiful day, so after a bit of lunch, we went out hiking at Shawnee Lookout, one of the Hamilton County parks out to the west of the city centre, just north of the Ohio River. It’s a hilltop park, affording views over the Ohio and Miami river valleys. The upper shot of my collage shows the bridge in the distance over the Ohio River, and nearer to the viewer, a black railway bridge crossing over the Great Miami River shortly before it joins the Ohio. The park also contains some Native American earthworks. There are several shortish trails, and we did two of them today for a total of 3 1/4 miles. Since we changed the clocks last night, by the time we finished our second trail, the sun was quite low in the sky, shining through the golden leaves, and creating long shadows across the forest floor. The park used to have a golf course, but that is no longer in use, so the paved path through there will be a good place to walk when the wooded trails get muddy!
In the evening I fixed us a roast chicken dinner, and afterwards we watched the Cincinnati Bengals vs the Buffalo Bills football game - and the Bengals won, yay!
