At sea - Cruise Expedition Day 14 - Southern Scotia Sea
Iceberg in the spotlight
Sea and fewer Icebergs. Snow
am. Bio security checks again before entering Antarctic territory (below 60 degrees south).
This ship takes bio-security very seriously and enforces all the guidelines.
When moving from one region to another we have to undergo a full check (Rest of world / Falkland Islands / South Georgia / Antarctica ).
Every time we leave/enter the ship we have to walk through disinfectant (Vircon) and scrub our boots on returning.
When ashore we have to stick to fixed routes and nothing other than our boots are allowed to touch the ground so we can't put bags down or kneel or sit down. The spread of avian flu is the main concern as it is also lethal to seals, particularly the young.
pm. More information about Antarctic penguins by Kevin. Crossed 60th parallel mid afternoon.
Evening. Quiz Night on what we had seen and been told about the Falklands and South Georgia. My team didn't do very well, only scoring 21 out of 40. Poor on history questions - names and dates. Afterwards, the bar was quiet - just 3 passengers and 2 expedition staff.

Main: Photo of a very blue iceberg against the light as we left South Georgia. I processed it to increase the contrast.
