Fascinating history

Back staying with family, we had a lovely day being introduced to New Slains Castle and Cruden Bay. The castle is a vast ruin on the cliffs near Cruden Bay. We loved clambering over the ruins but were very careful not to get too close to the clif edge. Sadly, people have fallen to their deaths by venturing too close to the edge. The castle is believed to be the castle that acted as the inspiration for the setting of Bram Stoker's tale in Count Dracula (1897)

We had lunch at Cruden Bay and were fascinated by the WWII history of the area. The lower photos shows concrete blocks placed there to stop tanks moving onto the land from the enemy's naval boats. Our hosts provided us with a wealth of local history. It was wonderful.
