Gunpowder, Treason, and Plot

Good to go to a proper British celebration . Guy Fawkes, a bonfire, and fireworks.  Super lanterns made by the children accompanied  Guy down to the bonfire. We drank mulled wine and watched the display. You can see Guy here before the flames engulfed him. Of course, the real Guy Fawkes was not burnt but was instead hung drawn and quartered on 30 Jan 1606 . James 1st passed an Act of Parliament to appoint 5 November in each year as a day of thanksgiving for 'the joyful day of deliverance'. Once Guy was engulfed, we enjoyed supper and pudding in the village hall. None of this Halloween rubbish.
