LAMP HOUSE
Given the darker nights, this Lamp Room at Levisham Station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, NYMR, is even more important. Of course, every loco used to carry oil lights, even in summer, to designate the type of train being pulled . . . this was called the Head Code, and enabled signalmen to identify the passing trains. Nowadays, with automatic signalling, Hertitage Railways are the best source of information.
The NYMR is a real delight when it comes to detail. The buildings on each station are painted to show all the local Station Colour Codes from the days when the railway system was just developing, rapidly.
Pickering Station displays the 1937 green and cream of BR Eastern Railway.
Levisham shows cream and maroon red.
At Goathland, Poster Boards are painted in the brown & lettered in cream, or painted cream & lettered in brown. Station Buildings are a perfect recreation of the NER.
Finally, Grosmont shows NE Regional Colours of Blue & Cream, with Orange Station Signs. Oriental Blue was used for lamp posts, signal box steps, with Tangerine used on station name boards & enamel notices.
Enjoy your fireworks . . . safely . . .
