Porcupine Gorge Challenge

Today was a big day at the Gorge. Over 110 competitors took on the Porcupine Gorge Challenge. At a senior level it is 9 kilometres of endurance: running over rocks, sand, logs and water. The Gorge is 72 kilometres north of Hughenden. Held once a year it is a great opportunity to see the Gorge; you pay the $20 per head, get a running shirt, a certificate and a guarantee of getting out. A helicopter awaits should anyone need a flight out. (Only to be used for genuine injuries, I sure could've given into a helicopter lift today when ascending from the base.) It seemed to me that someone had already used up all the oxygen, leaving none for Aussie or myself.
The Gorge Challenge started in 2001. We have competed in all except one; while we were living interstate. It takes us around 2 hours to walk the track. The better runners finish in around 40 minutes. We are nowhere near their category but certainly have more time to enjoy the surroundings.
