And the storm hit.

I think we got off very lightly in Weymouth compared to other places along the coast. The beach road over to Portland was shut for quite a while because of flooding from the sea, so Portlanders had no way of getting off the ‘island’.
We went along to the garden centre early, then to a couple of the shops - and ended up buying 25 Christmas cakes for Foodbank as they were on a good offer. We need 300 in all!
Later in the day when the tide and floods had receded we went over to Portland to see the sea. The Cove House Inn was still open although all of their shutters at the front were closed. They would certainly have lost some windows if they didn’t shut their shutters as the prom was strewn with huge pebbles that the waves had thrown up. Most had been pushed back onto the beach by the time we walked along. During a massive storm many many years back, waves were crashing over their roof - it can get a tad wild down here!
