Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

JR, in her general confusion this morning, popped to local gym for the 8am session, to find that there wasn't one. It was at 7.30, and she hadn't booked it anyway -just too early. Never mind, home to get the car (it was raining) and off to do extra at the Commie.

I was up and about early too, as I had to go into town for my Covid jab. I took Archie out for a quick round-the-block, then took the bus down town. It wasn't raining too badly by then - just sort of moist

A small queue for the jabs, so it was soon done. Didn't feel a thing, but they're beginning to ache now...

I walked back though the Gardens, busy with the 11th November Armistice Day displays of hundreds (thousands) of wooden crosses set out round the Scott Memorial. Also barriers up - they're starting to set up for the Christmas market. I was heading for the newly renovated National Gallery. Here’s a nice wee film about the Scottish Colourists.

It being a wet day, it was pretty busy, but there's plenty of room. It's a wonderful job they've done, and I loved the first few rooms showing the Scottish Colourists. And the ones of Edinburgh when it was being built. And, of course, the famous Monarch of the Glen, which was splendid in real life, and not just on a biscuit tin. I did not venture in to see Grayson Perry's exhibition - I love his work, especially his pottery. Another time.

I checked my bus app, and the 9 was due. I was only a minute from the bus stop, so I chanced it. And got it! Got some nice pastries on the way home to go with a coffee.
