Former Pitsligo (Peathill) Parish Kirk, Rosehearty
Having looked at the met office forecast this morning I was sure our walking group trip to Rosehearty would be cancelled. But no, a bus load of eager walkers enjoyed a trek round the landmarks.
‘The Kirk was built in 1632 as a result of a dispute between Forbes of Pitsligo and the Minister of New Aberdour who preached a ranting sermon against the ‘Three Pits of Hell’, Pittulie, Pittendrum and Pitsligo. The offended Forbes stormed out of the Kirk and vowed to build his own Kirk at Peathill.’
‘Perhaps the most unique tombstone is that to Anna Sim who died in March 1724 which depicts a resurrection scene incorporating angels wearing kilts.’
