Northern cardinal...

This beautiful bird is native to North America, and it was lovely to see one visiting my cousin's back garden while we sat chatting in the sun...
Not only are they stunning to look at, they have a wonderful song.

I'm always amazed at the differences in wildlife when I come to Canada. Here they have raccoons, skunks, chipmunks and possums running wild in their gardens - and yet don't have hedgehogs or badgers. I think I prefer the British selection!
