Cannock Extension Canal

We've been waiting for autumn colours to come through and suddenly everything seems to be changing at once. After a wet morning the weather brightened up and we took a walk along the Cannock Extension Canal.  Originally this canal crossed the A5 and climbed up to the coal pits to the east of Cannock (where the Orbital Retail Park now resides).  I've seen old photographs of the canal, but it is hard to imagine now, with so much change over the years.  It now terminates south of the A5 and there is a thriving little community of boats moored along the last few hundred yards of navigation.

We almost ran out of light getting back, now the clocks have changed to BST, it almost caught us out.
