Wound up in Wexford

A sculpture seen as I walked to the hotel last night, and that I thought was quite striking, so I stopped this morning to photograph it on the way back to the station..

Apparently it is above an old, underground canal, and depicts the hard work involved in towing a canal boat by manpower.

I was earlier setting off than I had intended.  After finishing the flute workshop last night, I travelled down to Cardiff, so the Monday morning trip down to Fishguard for the ferry was shorter and less daunting.  But when checking the train times last night, I was getting messages from Google about cancelled trains due to flooding in Swindon.  Thought this was odd - I'd just come through there on a train with no problem, but given the weather - lots of rain, some localised very heavy rain, it wasn't impossible.

In retrospect, although when travelling up to London the train I caught from Fishguard had come through to Cardiff, most of the trains actually only go to Swansea - I'd have been better travelling through to Swansea on Sunday evening.  As it was, I needed to catch a train to Swansea on Monday morning, then change to the Fishguard train.  And the train I'd intended to catch was the one coming through from London, going on to Swansea.

Instead, I headed out earlier, to catch a more local train. Other than being quite a long day - made longer when the ferry was late setting off from Fishguard because, to quote the captain, "they were having trouble starting the engines" - it was uncomplicated.

it was a stimulating and enjoyable weekend, but it's nice to get home to W and sleep in my own bed.
