Saffron

Crocus cartwrightianus, believed to be the species from which the cultivated Saffron Crocus is derived.  The long red style branches are harvested by hand, it's reckoned to take around 4000 flowers to give one ounce of saffron.   The flowers were open in the greenhouse thanks to a little morning sunshine but by the time I was out it needed flash to capture this degree of detail.

A work day but not until 3pm to help with food for Halloween events.  This involved dressing up as The Grim Reaper, the hood somewhat obscuring my vision!   Prior to this I'd done a few odd jobs this morning and taken Meg and Bella for a run at Rhydyronen.  Nice to see Jane and John, here for their last visit of the year.   Work again tomorrow, Aber Cafe, an early start so an early night beckons.
