Architectural Detail

Living in Milton Keynes is a bit like living in Australia. Not for its blue skies and hot Summers (unfortunately) but because there is nothing much in it that is architecturally very old. It was designated as a new town in 1967 and although it incorporated several existing Buckinghamshire towns and villages most of its buildings are new and modern. I moved here in 1971 and have watched it grow. I've seen most of the buildings through from plan to reality.

One of the first developments to be built in the new designated area of Milton Keynes was the Open University. It was the first university to adopt an open admissions policy and catered for thousands of students who would otherwise not have had access to degree level education. The Open University is quite close to where I live so I can walk over whenever I like and admire all the beautiful modern architecture on the university campus.

I walked over today and took several shots of the buildings. This is the entrance to the maths building which is a glass structure with random panels of coloured glass. This shot shows the reflection of Walton Hall, a manor house which became the original offices of the university. The old reflected in the new!!
