Brick Lane

I'm here to see Out of Range, an exhibition of photography by students from the University for the Creative Arts, Rochester.

The walk up Brick Lane is always tantalising in every sense. The smell of perfectly spiced curry, shop windows full of exotic treats such as the digital Koran or Mecca snowstorms. Arabic radio broadcast to the street.

Looking down a side road I saw this little Moslem boy and he seemed to sum up the aspiration in the area, clutching his sports bag in his immaculate school uniform.

He's not sure of me, probably because I don't look like one of the many trendy young art sudents who also live and work in this area.
