Where’s our bus?
Had a few items to buy in Saffron Walden so instead of driving we went by bus, less carbon and it's free - no parking charges either.
The bus duly arrived in the village at a quarter to 10 and at a quarter past we were in SW. Some very pricey fish from the market, a shiny red cabbage and then off to Waitrose for provisions. At 11.20 we were at the bus stop waiting for the 1130 back home. By 12.00 it was clear the bus was not going to arrive so Plan B and off to Weatherspoon's for lunch and get the 1330 instead.
We were at the bus stop by twenty past and on the indicator sign the number 320 service was listed as due at 1330.
Needless to say at 1330 all that happened was the service went off the indicator but no bus. We checked with a couple of drivers on buses from the same company going to other destinations but they had no information about the missing service. So to ensure we got home we had to call a taxi.
As an attempt to avoid a car journey and a parking charge it was a bit of a failure, we also spent 3 hours longer than we had wanted.
I was told by one of the bus drivers that the bus company is obliged to pay reasonable alternative travel costs if they cancel a service without notice.
I have already submitted my claim for the £35 cab fare - I don't expect to get a response.....
