Gaia

Well what a brilliant end to our mini visit to Cornwall! The Gaia globe exhibition is at Truro Cathedral, which we managed to visit on our way back from Penzance to Newton Abbot..
It’s an art installation by Luke Jerram, 7 metres across and at a scale 1.8 million times smaller than the real Earth, so 1cm describes 18km on the surface of the internally lit globe.
If you could stand 212metres away you would see it as if viewed from the moon!
There was a really lovely atmosphere in the cathedral, with some specially composed music playing and the globe rotating very slowly. Everyone seemed quite awestruck by its beauty floating in the nave. And to our delight, dogs were welcome in the cathedral so we could all experience it together.
Bonnie became quite quiet in there, I’m not sure why but perhaps she was picking up the incredible atmosphere. We met another Labrador visiting too and he was so calm I think it rubbed off on Bonnie. His name was Bear, and he had been rescued at 3 weeks old and bottle fed by his owner, who said he’d had become a real soulmate to her.
Truly a wonderful experience.
