Pedicure for the girls.
Nellie and Addie needed their hooves trimmed so here’s Justin doing the job on Addie while I draw on my 35 years of veterinary experience to hold the front end.
The extra shows an abscess we drained on Addie’s off hind. This is a common foot infection in horses and I’ve seen hundreds of them but the unusual feature here was that Addie wasn’t even lame. She actually galloped down the hill this morning and beat her mother to the feed bin!
For those interested, the triangular structure in the extra is known as the frog. It’s softer and spongier than the sole and acts as a shock absorber.
