Another 'Flowering' Plant

I've been trying to identify this plant in our arid garden. There are a number of them but two of them are 'flowering' in much the way that an agave does, and the plants are dying, which is another agave characteristic. My best guess is that these are agave 'tequiliana'. The flowers are these extraordinarily tall spikes with some kind of seeds at the top. Coming from a rather damp, shady location in Berkeley, we are still newcomers, after 12 years, to these desert plants and are quite fascinated by their unique forms of reproduction.

We are so fortunate to be able to retreat to our little patch of land with a warm house and peaceful surroundings. I am publishing a picture that was in the paper (and risking having it taken down) because I think it says it all about the brutal wars in Gaza, Ukraine and elsewhere. The child could be Israeli or Palestinian. It doesn't matter. He is a child, and he is sitting in the dirt, blood running down his expressionless face, clearly in shock. The medic trying to help him has his hand on the child's arm, but has turned away, an expression of anguish on his face. It is  makes me weep every time I look at it. I don't know what the answer is, but the violence and brutality has to stop. Even if they survive, these children will be scarred for life by what they have seen. It is truly heartbreaking. The world needs to see these pictures and to look for a better solution....
