The Treachery Of Images
On This Day In History
1881: Pablo Picasso is born
Quote Of The Day
"We all know that art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realise the truth."
(Pablo Picasso)
This is not a tree.
This is a photo of a tree.
Is this tree living and growing at Koshienhama beach park, or is it simply a computer programme rendered in full detail only when I am there to see it?
If a tree falls in a forest, does it make a noise if nobody is there to hear it? More to the point, does the tree or the forest even exist if nobody is there to see it?
Fascinating thoughts to ponder after watching this Why Files video on Simulation Theory. The superabundant existence of the Fibonocci sequence and the Golden Ratio; the utterly staggering implications of the Double Slit experiment; the utterly insane Delayed Choice experiment; the possibility that the Fermi Paradox can be explained by distant galaxies being mere holographic projections and, to a lesser extent, the Mandela Effect - I am quite heavily sold on Simulation Theory.
Also, I watched The Creator at the cinema this morning, an outstanding piece of S.F. film making, both cerebral and emotionally powerful. If we are simply computer coded creations existing in a simulation, then what right do we have to deny the A.I. that we create the same human rights that we claim the right to?
Oh yes, and Jaws' girlfriend in Moonraker totally wore braces!
"Do you think that's air you're breathing now?"
