Busy this afternoon.
One of Scotland's most recognisable tourist attractions, The Kelpies, in the news again. This time it’s because the Kelpies and award winning Helix Park continue to need council money to operate annually. A local Tory councillor called for a business plan that would allow the site to at least break even. Many find that “logic” alien. A real case of “knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing.”
To us it’s a public recreation amenity site. Designed for inclusion, health and #wellbeing. Walking, cycling, wheeling, running, dog walking, families and friends, children playing at the playground. Many folks spend money at on site businesses, the few paid attraction’s and parking, and tourists spend in wider area too. It’s important to remember that some of the visitors are on low incomes and it’s vital they have access to the facility. There has to be a balance.
