Syngonium Pixie
Not for us the exclusivity of the Ritz or the Connaught in London or even the Ivy in the Square for breakfast. Oh no, we dined on full vegetarian breakfasts for £3:50 a head in IKEA. I have not been through the shop’s portals for at least 7 years, so you can understand my excitement at being driven there to wander the room settings and finally the market place where you see and buy things you never knew you wanted.
I came away with 2 dish washing brushes, a cushion pad and this terrarium, housing a Syngonium Pixie plant. I’ve always thought it would be interesting to grow things in jars ever since the days of carboys when people planted gardens in them.
I owned a carboy about 50years ago but it just stood in a corner looking majestic. I didn’t plant anything in it and I may have insulted it by making it into a lamp- I can’t remember, it’s so long ago but it never made it after we moved from Glasgow to Edinburgh. Perhaps I gave it to someone.
When I saw these jars all ready to go, I couldn’t resist the urge, and so here we have Pixie the ideal plant to have that needs practically no attention and will fill me with wonder as I peer at it through the moisture on the glass. I wonder if it will be happy in its glass cage. It’s certainly the plant to have if you want to go on holiday.
