Angel Pup
Brilliant blue skies are all the more appreciated after wind and rain, and unsurprisingly there are many people out walking today. Of course, numbers are boosted by half-term holidays for some, and the beach at Colwyn Bay is almost as busy as summer - though attire is definitely different!
The greys of yesterday are replaced by vivid colours - primarily still greens rather than autumnal golds - as we walk along the headland towards Angel Bay. it’s seal pup time, and the cliff overlooking the beach is edged with people, many with children eager to see the latest additions. In reality, though there have been around eleven pups this year, we can only spot two, the younger one of which is right down by the shore line, presumably waiting for mum to come ashore.
This natural viewing gallery is ideal for both watcher and seal, keeping us humans safely distant. Close ups require all the power of my 600mm lens, and though the tide is perfect, all the beach is shadowed by the cliffs, so lighting leaves a lot to be desired. I settle down to watch - lying down on the clifftop (surprisingly dry considering the rains). The pup is comatose, and I really want to see him move, opening those soulful eyes.
Patience us rewarded; spray from the incoming tide spurs him to open his eyes, look in my direction, and squirm a little up the beach. My blip today. There are a few other poses in an extra collage.
Thanks once again for your kind response to yesterday’s grey beach scene - much appreciated!
