On This Day In History
2002: Siege in the Dubrovka Theatre, Moscow
Quote Of The Day
"We have nothing to lose. We have already covered 2,000 kilometers by coming here. There is no way back ..... We have come to die. Our motto is freedom and paradise. We already have freedom as we've come to Moscow. Now we want to be in paradise."
(Movsar Barayev, Chechen terrorist leader)
Remember how this ended? Most of the forty Chechen terrorists and up to 200 of the 800 hostages were killed when Russian forces released poison gas into the theatre. The Russians proclaimed the operation a success because no members of the Russian forces were killed or injured.
Hoping, but not anticipating, more success from the Israeli forces in their hostage crisis.
