Hook lighthouse

We took advantage of the nice weather to take a trip out to Hook lighthouse. It's somewhere I have intended to go since arriving here but it never seemed the right time! We tend to have gently lapping waves but here the waves were crashing over the rugged cliffs. Apparently it is where the phrase 'by hook or by crook' comes from.  Oliver Cromwell vowed to take Waterford by Hook (on the Wexford side of Waterford Estuary) or by the village of Crooke, on the Waterford side.

EDIT. After checking with Google it seems there are many theories on the origin but I'm claiming the above version on behalf of Ireland!
Back home now to listen to Johnnie Walker and start a new cross stitch for a friends birthday. I have been planning it for ages and now realise I only have 3 weeks to do it. At the speed I do them this might be a long shot!
