The Old Village
East Kilbride was designated a New Town in 1948, and built around a small village in Lanarkshire. The village has survived intact, and has become a haven for small businesses, and restaurants, so we have the best of both worlds, a Town Centre with all amenities one could imagine, including a swimming pool and a skating rink, and for a quieter pace of life, the old village with its coffee shops, charity shops and restaurants.
I was lunching today with the girls! The HG was away for the day with our grandson, and I had loads of time to gossip. Took this photo just after lunch, before heading home. Go Large to see the name of the old pub, the oldest in EK. It dates back to 1656 and is an old coaching inn. You can see the Loupin Stane outside, used to help mount a horse.
I like the old village.
