More art
We drove down to the Farmers’ Market this morning, but before doing our shopping we went to the Tees Street Café for breakfast. The dishes on the menu were just a little bit different and we thoroughly enjoyed our choices, but there are other dishes we’d like to try so we’re going to have to go back. We returned to the Farmers’ Market to do our shopping then drove back home to unload our purchases. I spent some time walking around the garden taking photos of the flowers to send to friends in England, Germany and Sweden. It was a lovely sunny morning and a pleasure to walk around admiring the flowers. When I’d finished taking photos we set out to walk into town and visit some more artists and a couple of galleries.
Our first stop was at Sarka Cibulcova, a lovely girl from the Czech Republic. We chatted to her for a while and enjoyed looking at her art. The next stop was Maneland Photography where there were stunning photographs of birds and landscapes. The photographer was very interesting and we enjoyed a long chat with her. By this time we both needed a cool drink and a cup of coffee, so we walked down to the Victoria Lounge Bar. After our refreshments we visited the Customs House Gallery, which is a wonderful building and the home of the North Otago Art Society, then the Grainstore Gallery, which is an unbelievably weird, eclectic, curious place. The Forrester Gallery was last on our list. Every year the Forrester Gallery asks all the schools and early childhood education centres in the Waitaki District to contribute student artwork to the Burns Memorial Exhibition. It is a showcase for the community and a celebration of children’s art. It was a most interesting exhibition in a wonderful neo-classical building originally constructed in 1884 for the Bank of New South Wales. By this time we were flagging somewhat, so we walked back up the hill to home.
