" KILLER " KILCLINE
Yesterdays stormy weather disappeared overnight and today was sunny and dry and not too cold. It did turn chillier as the day went on,
Newcastle had a home game this afternoon against Crystal Palace. A good old fashioned 3 o'clock on a Saturday kick off ( there aren't many of those per season ). I got to the ground fairly early which was good because the queues at the turnstiles were very long.
The match was a good one from a Newcastle fans point of view. At half time Newcastle were 3 nil up. Goals from Murphy ( 4th minute ) Gordon (44th minute ) and Longstaff ( 47th minute ). In the second half Wilson scored (66th minute ). Crystal Palace didn't have a single shot on target until, midway through the second half. So the final score was 4 nil to The Toon. They are now 5th in the Premiership table. Morale will be high which is a bonus as they have a Champions League match on Wednesday against Borussia Dortmund.
Before kick off I was scanning the crowd using my " proper " camera. I like to look at who might be sitting in the " posh seats ". And today I spotted this gentleman and recognised him immediately. He is Brian Kilcline ( aka " Killer Kilcline ). He played for Newcastle between 1992 and 1994 .When Kevin Keegan became manager of Newcastle in 1992, "Killer" Kilcline was his first signing, and was immediately installed as club captain. He became known for his hard tackling and aerial ability. Keegan later remarked that Kilcline was "the most important signing" he had ever made for the club. My photo also includes Mrs Kilcline - she was a very enthusiastic flag waver. According to Wikipedia they live in Holmfirth, Yorkshire .
Ive added an Extra of some of the Newcastle team - Joelinton, Wilson, Gordon, Murphy and Schar. Also the " No Room For Racism" banner and the two Radio Newcastle commentators who I listen to when its an away game.
After the match I did some shopping in Tesco before catching a bus home. The traffic was bad in Newcastle but as soon as we got to the other side of the river the roads were clear.
