Rainy day
It rained without cease today, until about 8pm. There were a lot of stories of blocked roads, overwhelmed drains, burns that had burst their banks, fields that had overflowed onto roads, and leaky roofs. Luckily none of those contingencies seems to have affected us, although apparently our neighbour up the hill had sandbags out as the water that comes off the hill always ends up at his doorstep.
The rain has now stopped (10pm), and it feels a bit warmer than it was. This may be an illusion.
In view of the rubbish weather, I decided that the best way of getting some exercise involved going up to TRACC, the gym, where I did 45 minutes on the elliptical trainer. I was quite pleased as it was ages since I'd been on an elliptical. I took the car there and back, and on the way back went to the local garden centre to buy a pot for the eleagnus, which keeps falling over as its pot is not substantial enough to stand up in the wind. We'll repot it tomorrow, I hope.
I had to do a bit of work in the afternoon, but also managed a bit of reading.
We had a warming soup for dinner and then watched some WDYTYA, plus the second half of the England v SA rugby semi final, where England did not - to my surprise - disgrace themselves.
Meanwhile the intrepid 365 dips crew went to Inver, having decided that The Port was too dangerous today. We'll go to Shandwick tomorrow at a lower tide and hopefully it might be fit for a bit of wave jumping. The winds have dropped as well as the rain receding. It's been quite a storm and also quite a long lasting storm. Unusually long lasting. It will be interesting to see what is left of the beaches of the Easter Ross peninsula after the storm.
