In the background is St Faith's Church.

It derives its name from a young girl from Agen in Aquitaine. At the turn of the 4th century, it is believed that St Faith was martyred on the orders of the Roman Governor of the region for refusing to make a sacrifice to pagan gods.

There has been a chapel on the present site in Maidstone since 1272 and for a century and half it was a refugee church for the people escaping from the French persecution of Heugenots. The current St Faith's Church was built in 1872.

On the left is a finial which originally crowned the main wall of the House of Commons Debating Chamber. When this was destroyed by bombing in 1941, it was presented to the citizens of Maidstone.
