My dying tree

This tree in our garden has not grown leaves this year again. The bark is splitting and peeling and we have had a woodpecker on it! (Camera nowhere to hand when you need one!) This pattern looks a bit like a broken heart carved into it, I thought. Poor tree - it will have to come down before it falls and takes out the fencing with it.
