Elbows on the table

Went to Carberry Tower for afternoon tea today and met this lovely old tree (hornbeam?) that was doing that excellent thing I have only seen with yews, where the limbs touch the ground and start a new set of trunks. This photo shows the main trunk on the left and one of the new trunks on the right. From a distance, this looked like a small copse of trees, but was just one big extended beauty. The afternoon tea was nice too :)
