Repurposed

30 years ago, maybe longer, J bought me this walking stick as a present. I think it’s made of Ash wood. It has been on many walking holidays, both in this country and abroad. It’s no exaggeration to say that it may well have saved our lives on an extremely hairy day in Switzerland.

It now serves a quite different purpose, and over the last few months has become J’s stick. When we go places she uses her mobility scooter if it involves a bit of travel (so a scoot around RHS Bridgewater yesterday afternoon), but with the aid of this stick she can cover shorter distances. So here it is in the clinic we visit every Tuesday morning, it’s also been on a flying visit to John Lewis this afternoon, and it’ll be helping her into and out of the hospital tomorrow.

It’s a much loved walking stick.
