Brancaster Staithe Harbour

H and I went on a recce today to try out a new walk that I'd found to see if it had all the necessary elements to make it suitable for sharing with our friends.  We got off to a good start...free parking (but not much of it), a loo, a crab hut which as well as selling dressed crabs and pots of prawns, crayfish etc. also sold tea and coffee.  So far, so good.  The walk was excellent although there was a fairly long stretch up a country lane but only two or three cars passed us.  There was a nature reserve where there was some deer, a pretty copse of beech trees (see extra) and some great views (another extra).  Plenty of coastal bird life too.  Oh...and a chance for some browsing of crafts and artwork (plus another loo) at a group of shops at Burnham Deepdale.

However, after we had completed almost the whole walk, and were almost at the end of a stretch of board walk, we came across a high wire barrier across our path.  We just managed to squeeze our way around it (after negotiating some brambles) and chatted to a workman who was clearing grass who informed us that this stretch of the path would be closed until after Spring 2024 and the only alternative route to complete the walk was along the very busy and fast A149.  So, I think a return visit will have to wait until next year.

We completed the walk with a tasty roll stuffed with crayfish and seafood sauce from the crab hut, sitting looking over the harbour.
