A seaside day
Today was a seaside day.
Cathie had mentioned it on passing a few days back but it stuck with me and became something that I was really looking forward to /needing.
We went to Whitby.
It was the last day of ‘no dogs on the beach’ and it was FULL of happy dogs and their owners!! I suppose because the weather hasn’t been all that good and it being grey today everyone just went for ‘it’s our turn’!
We walked along the shore and Scout did a very good job of running off to set another dog and coming back when I called her. :) We even managed to have her walk with us and not bother the three little dogs that we’re keeping pace with us.
Close to Sandsend we stopped for a swim. The water was as smooth as glass! Oh the water felt sooo good! I could have stayed in for much longer. Scout played on the edge but really wasn’t interested in coming in for a swim.
I really enjoyed watching the cormorants diving into the water. (As we ate our snack sitting on the concrete ‘steps’). There were quite a lot of them. I was tempted to swim near them but figured they would be happier if I left them to it.
There was another much smaller bird, I think a Shearwater. They tended to sit on the surface in a row then one after the other dive under water. That was very entertaining watching them too.
We walked back along the road to Whitby as the tide was now in. The rain started as we walked. Back in Whitby it was time for fish n chips from The Magpie. We ate them under the bandstand as everything was wet from the rain.
Then of course we needed to walk out along the pier. From the end we watched a couple of fishermen and more impressively, watched the shearwater diving and swimming after their catch as they tried to real them in! Ha!
It was a lovely day and a nice drive back home. :D. Ahhhh!
