Quilts Of The World

Today was session 2 of 4 of the OLLI CLASS, Art InThe Modern World. The topic was quilts and the speaker was fascinating. She has done a lot of advocacy work in Africa, and so many other countries. This particular one was constructed after she received several beaded faces and animals from Uganda. The beaded characters were sent to her, and she placed them on top of a quilt background that resembled their land. Our speaker was also a preschool teacher during her working years, and the quilt in extra is one she made from a story book . Two hours flew by, listening to her stories and the stories that went along with her quilts. She had another, that was not so pleasant as it was several squares made by women who had been abused and trafficked. The project of getting them to make the squares was a way of healing the trauma. We saw many pictures of many quilts made, and some assembled by her. It was a fascinating couple of hours.
