Autumn chill
I again failed to get out for a walk till far too late in the day. At the bottom of Vicarage Lane there was still sun on the fields, just, but the light was fading fast. In a couple of weeks we will have returned to GMT for winter and it will be getting dark at this time. Today has felt chilly too: for the first time this autumn, I shivered on getting out of bed and was a little reluctant to stand barefoot in the bathroom while I dressed. I walked in a fleece and scarf, and realised it's time to put away the linen trousers. It's probably time to pick all the aubergines too - P thought there might have been a touch of frost when he went for his early morning walk. This evening he has made our first fire of the autumn, at J's request, and we are ending the evening beside its last embers.
