Grange Lido
Works are ongoing to refurbish the Grange Lido which has been unsafe and an eyesore in recent years. In this contract the buildings will be made safe and tidied up and will include a local exhibition showing the Lido in its heyday. The pool has for the time being been filled in with loose stone in order to stabilise the floor of the pool, which might otherwise rise during high tide events. It also removes the danger of people falling into the old pool. I understand that it will be landscaped and planted. These works will not prevent a future scheme to rewater and reopen the pool should there be the desire and the funds available at some time in the future as the loose stone can be removed and reused. All the high tide seawater holding tanks, which are situated beneath the raised seats, are being retained. Bearing in mind that a modern indoor heated pool built nearby failed to pay its way and was demolished after only a few years, I think it unlikely that a refurbished cold, saltwater pool would succeed.
