St Andrews

Down in Peebles this afternoon meeting up with Ian Mac and it was a fine fish & ships lunch for all. He’s doing OK apart from a dodgy ankle meaning he can hardly walk any distance (the new knees are fine though). Not sure how he was going to get up a couple of flights of stairs to his son’s flat but it was perishing cold at the front door so we left him to it. Hey, that’s what friends are for.
Re the pic: apparently the St Andrews Tower, built in 1195 at the center of the old churchyard, is all that remains of the church after Henry VIII’s soldiers burned down the rest of it. Seemed strange, if you’re going to all that bother, to leave the tower but probably other parts were left too as I just read that some of the other church stones now form part of the road bridge over the River Tweed.
Now that’s great recycling.
