Flower Friday the 13th : : Leucodendron
I have been stalking two ravens who would have made a good post for Friday the 13th, but they refused to cooperate so in the end I settled for a rather dark shot of Leucodendron which seemed vaguely appropriate.
I probably shouldn't have picked this day to sign us up for a Covid shot because it took over an hour to locate the appropriate numbers of insurance plans, fill out a lengthy form (more than once...don't ask) for each of us and select a time. As it turns out we both have confirmed appointments on Monday, but one is at 12:30 and one is at 2:45. There was no way to get the same time for both of us but I'm hoping if we both show up at 12:30 they will give us both our shots at the same time...who knows?
We went to Cafe Frida and were the only ones there. Gayle and Bob went to Mendocino with her brother and sister-in-law, Tobi had to deliver produce somewhere and Maggie forgot. A couple came in with three little barky daschunds which was all to much for Spike who joined the chorus, so John took him to the car where he seems to spend most of his time on Friday mornings. They set off another round of barking as they passed them on the way to the car and a man arriving was muttering something about how it sounded like 'sounds like the humane society'.
Not a terribly auspicious beginning to the day, but not terribly sinister either. Both John and I were feeling strangely weary but he forced himself to prune the lime tree which is really too close to the house. Two of four spiky plants, I think they are some sort of yucca, have put up 20 foot tall 'flowers' which John doesn't want to cut because he wants to see what they do.
I forced myself to knock down a load of spiderwebs, dog hair and dust, thinking about a quote I read somehere : Dog lovers are people who consider dog hair a condiment
My neighbor is coming over with a dress for her son's wedding which needs shortening. She isn't a shopper and the wedding is a formal one in South Africa in February when it is likely to be quite hot. She has finally found a dress which has been approved by the bride and groom and is moving on to shoes and a handbag big enough for a cell phone. I hope she has found some shoes because they will affect the alteration of the dress.
I wonder if/when we will go back to sensible weddings that don't involve thousands of miles of travel and multiple days of associated activities? A lot of people seem to be dispensing with weddings altogether so it seems to be one extreme or the other. Ann is from South Africa and she still has family there which is probably why Capetown was chosen as a venue.
