Rearranging The Deckchairs

My brother had to book his by now customary day off due to yet another train strike and as he's forced to take it as holiday we really feel we should treat it as such and head out on another micro trip.
So of course that meant another coastal excursion. This time we decided to reacquaint ourselves with Broadstairs.
The journey down was pretty traffic free and remarkably we managed to only encounter one set of roadworks. We parked the car in the centre of town and then headed to a pub right next to the beach, the curiously named Tartar Frigate. The clouds had just begun to disperse and the sun make an appearance as we sat at a window table with a view out across the harbour and imbibed our rather costly pints (£12.40 for two!).
Our thirsts somewhat expensively quenched it was time for a walk along the harbourside. The extra was taken outside the The Boathouse Gift Shop, which had at one time had been the Harbourmaster's office, and is of a customised red phone box now used to display all the paraphernalia you could possibly need should you wish to engage in a spot of crabbing (or even lobstering - as the presence of its crustacean cousin would appear to suggest!).
After leaving the harbour we continued our stroll along the gloriously golden sandy beach as the sun really made its presence felt. The temperature felt like early summer rather than the first week of October and there were even a couple of sunbathers trying to catch some of those very unseasonal rays of warm sunshine.
The beach itself was pretty unencumbered by people - a few dog walkers and some small groups of foreign students - and you could see some of the beachside cafes and shops getting ready to close for the coming winter season, which is kind of represented by my main image. There were one or two deckchairs still out on the sands but the vast majority had now been packed away for their seasonal hibernation.
By this stage we were beginning to get rather hungry so we ambled back into town to secure a large bag of chips and then take them back to sit on a bench on the cliff path with a fabulous view across Viking Bay. We just felt so grateful to be there sitting in the sun with that seascape in front of us.
Of course that had to be followed by an ice cream form the legendary Morelli's Gelato ice cream parlour, which has been serving its loyal customers in the town since 1932. A delicious final flourish to our micro trip before we set off for home.
