Amish

Our last day full day in Pennsylvania and we went to Amish country. Here there are lots of handmade, beautiful things to buy. They are famous for lots of things but their quilts are glorious and very, very expensive.
Amish are farmers who eschew all things modern and live a separate life from society without electricity, motor cars, telephones and computers etc. They have draft animals to work their land, travel around by horse and carriage and make all their own clothing, furniture and food.
They dress in a set way, men wear blue shirts, black trousers and jacket with a straw hat. Women in blue or maroon dresses with black apron and head covered with black bonnet. Conservative Amish do not like their faces to show in photos but these young women are not so conservative, as indicated by their colouful dress.
I know one thing though, if the world is threatened by Armageddon, I am on the first plane to Amish country because those guys know how to survive without modern technology!
