Have our fish had their chips?
The title of a talk by John Halliday from Greenpeace highlighting the precarious state of our oceans and the creatures who live in the seas. It didn’t make comfortable listening. Most of what he said we already know but getting politicians and corporations to act is like taking cats for a walk and there is always the overriding fear that it’s already too late.
The event was organised by BearstedCAN (Climate Action Network) and is one of many such events this new organisation is offering. Repair cafes have been very popular and BearstedCAN has had a high profile at our local carnival and in Maidstone.
The event was held at Bearsted’s Parish Church - the Holy Cross which has been transformed in the last few months by the removal of the pews. While this will probably upset the traditionalists it’s made the church building more accessible and open to a greater range of activities and events for the Bearsted community
