Valle dei Templi
We’d only arranged to stay one night in Ragusa so reluctantly we set off again this morning to Agrigento, the last stop on our tour before we head back to Palermo. We stopped off at a lovely beach en route and had a couple of great swims. It was all going well until we arrived in the old town of Agrigento and found ourselves in very narrow back streets, many of which were one way.
I knew that our hotel had parking but what they’d neglected to tell us was that the parking was in a completely separate area to the hotel. We ended up having to park the car by the cathedral (I’d aged about 10 years by then) and then walk down and back up about 200 steps in the baking heat! We were too shaken to move the car again (Mr P had to have a beer to regain his composure) but thankfully we found Massimo and his free minibus ride to the Valley of the Temples from the cathedral square. We watched the sun going down over them. Unforgettable. As it’s our last night in Sicily, we decided to treat ourselves to a meal from a nearby posh, candlelit restaurant.
