Sedges Edges

An emergency blip. I've been having a tidy around the back door area and found this self sown remnant from my plant centre days. I raised and sold this sedge to my customers to complement my colourful summer garden plants. It's Cyperus glaber. It is thought that Moses in the bulrushes was actually Moses in a sort of coracle made from a sedge like this. It is native to the area where the terrible conflict is taking place.

Paper was made from the pith of a similar plant, Cyperus papyrus. That's how paper got its name.

Here's how to differentiate between grasses, sedges and rushes.

Sedges have edges,
Rushes are round,
Grasses are hollow
Right down to the ground.
