More books for my record.
I finished the last 4 books I blipped on 27th September. I finished “At home with the Templetons” at lunch time today. It was one of those difficult to put down. A bit annoying when it was so thick, I even dreamt about it last night. This lot I borrowed from the library. I’ve read some of the Voice book which is interesting as we have our referendum on Saturday.
The question being asked is if we approve a change to the constitution which recognises Aboriginal People as the First People’s of Australia. They were here 60,000 years so I think that is a no brainer.
The next bit, which is causing an issue, is that an advisory body will be established and enshrined in the constitution which may make representation to Parliament and Executive Government on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Islander People. There has been a whole lot of debate about who will be on the body, why the executive, why permanent etc. at the moment if you read a time line of this since our Federation there have been dozens of bodies which have been changed whenever the govt changes, this causes great disruption. The first Aboriginal person elected to the Aboriginal Affairs portfolio was only a few years ago. Many of these past bodies had funding attached which didn’t work. This one will just be an advisory body made up of elected representatives from across the country.
The last part talks about how it will work ( the government may make laws in respect to the matters which includes the composition, functions, powers and procedures).
On my walk today I had a chat to a neighbour who asked when the voting was happening. He also asked me to explain what it was about. He obviously doesn’t watch the news much.
Do you remember dates? On 11.10.10 I had a bad attack of BPPV ( vertigo). I always remember it was the day after the 10.10.10. I was so confused and frightened, felt like I was falling and couldn’t work out what was up or down. I ended up sleeping on the lounge at 45° for 3 months and could not do a thing. Luckily there was 1 Omniax machine in Australia and after about 6 treatments I was cured. They strap you in and slowly turn the machine upside down until the particles in your inner ears go back where they are supposed to be. I needed about 5 months off work.
Another date I remember was 4th August 2003 when I dropped a heavy log of wood on my foot and crushed the bones. I only had a week off for that injury. Next up was 6th January 2006 when I fainted while riding my bike downhill. I was a bit of a mess that time with abdominal injuries and was out of action for a few months. Lucky I was well in between times and had plenty of sick leave to use.
So that’s my medical history if you have bothered reading to the end. It’s all about the dates….
