The rice factory....

Today has been a wonderful day. I took my visitors to a village where they had come as part of a team in 2008 to build a nursery school. We visited the school and also saw dramatic changes in the rest of the village where the health centre and primary school have been upgraded. I had some work to do with the committee and caregivers at the nursery school and the visitors went off with some locals to look around the area.

After this we were given lunch by the village which was great! Then we went back to the lakeside lodge where we were staying the night before returning to Mzuzu. On the way back going through the town we passed many scenes like this - rice drying in the sun before it is bagged up and sent to the market.

Karonga is a very hot and humid place in Malawi and is ideal for rice growing. They produce a very tasty type of rice called kilombera and its delicious! The rice harvest has been good this year and so at the minute it is cheap to buy!

I took many pictures today and some were much better than this one but I thought it would be good to show you some more of daily life in Malawi!

In case you are interested I backblipped the last two days when I had no internet access :-))
