Box Lunch....
Thanksgiving weekend... a Canadian tradition being thoroughly enjoyed here ...usually a weekend of family gatherings, autumn colour, and turkey dinners....
Well, here at my house, there is not a family gathering..Thanksgiving weekend is also traditional cottage closing weekend up north and the younger generation in our family gather to do all the work that entails; I decline..sleeping space is limited and my working days ended long ago...
So, I am traditionally at home or on a trip at Thanksgiving...This year, my friend Mary from the east coast has joined me, and we are enjoying a very laid back visit..so laid back, that neither one of us are interested in cooking unless absolutely necessary, but still...we wanted that traditional turkey dinner.
Unbeknownst to me for years, you can order a take-out Thanksgiving dinner? Who knew? Not me. Go online, fill in a form, and you shall receive a four- course turkey dinner...in a box! (extra) The only drawback? you have to pick it up. No delivery. And then, the horror, you have to heat it up. So, it is not entirely labour-free...but oh so much easier than cooking it yourself. And very tasty...
The weather this weekend is not exactly what one hopes it will be for Thanksgiving- cloudy, cold, windy, rainy..and further north? even some snow! Yikes! But we will make the most of it...lounging by the fire, sipping coffee or wine, knitting or doing needlepoint, watching some TV offerings on Britbox...practising...as Winter looms....and one must be ready.
