Bushfire smoke. A big fire is burning in the hills not far north east of Santa Fe. Apparently it started yesterday afternoon from a lightning strike. I have been told that New Mexico is very prone to bush fires - ten years of drought, humidity around 10% and hot. A tinderbox.
